Backup: Double-Take Cargo Works Round the Clock

Double-Take Cargo, recently introduced by Double-Take Software, is a simple cost-effective add-on solution to optimize the storage of unstructured data. With Double-Take Cargo, inactive files can be removed from the primary server and replaced by small stub files that transparently link to the full file content on the Double-Take target server. If a user accesses an archived file, it is transparently recalled back to the primary server with no difference in behaviour to the end user. Administrators are able to restore files more quickly by only restoring these smaller files to the primary server, resulting in saved costs in time and storage space. There's no learning curve for system administrators; Double-Take Cargo integrates transparently with other Double-Take Software solutions. Archiving can be programmed to run daily or weekly at a pre-determined time. Archiving and recall can be sorted by file size or creation date. System administrators can select individual files or folders for immediate archiving and recall, and optimized restore allows recovery of the most important file-based data first, ensuring key systems are up and running quickly after an outage.

Livewire Brings Disaster Recovery to Secondary Servers

Livewire, Double-Take Software's solution for continuous replication of secondary servers, limits data loss following outages. "Livewire from Double-Take Software offers a solution to a key but underserved segment of the Disaster Recovery marketplace as identified by IDC - protecting and recovering those servers which are "next" in importance to the organization." according to James Baker, IDC Research Manager for Storage Software. "Livewire works in physical, virtual, or mixed physical and virtual environments letting the user select the most optimal recovery point, time, and location for the organization." With Livewire, there is no need to invest in dedicated backup servers for fast failover. Livewire functions independently of server hardware configurations. Backup images can be restored to dissimilar platforms, or to virtual servers, which can be provisioned automatically. The full server configuration is protected - data, applications, and operating system, along with configuration details. Livewire's n-to-1 deployment model, based on the use of a single replication server supporting multiple production servers, significantly reduces the TCO of disaster recovery.

Magirus and Double-Take in Pan-European Partnership

In adding Double-Take Software solutions to its product portfolio, the Magirus virtualisation team rounds out a range of infrastructure software solutions for the protection of Windows or Linux- based physical and virtual server platforms. Following a successful pilot phase in France, the partnership has now been extended to cover Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. For Oliver Cohen, Sales Director - Europe at Double-Take, "Magirus will play an essential role in helping us identify new sales channels for our solutions. For our customers, this partnership will play a significant business role, accelerating the uptake of virtualisation in the enterprise." Cost effective, easy to install and administer, there are practically no pre-requisites to deploying Double-Take solutions. Its real-time byte-level replication technology works across dissimilar server platforms and doesn't depend on SAN infrastructures. Low bandwidth requirements mean Double-Take replication can be used in LAN or WAN environments. In becoming a Magirus partner, Double-Take Software joins a technology family including Avocent, DataCore, Netuitive, FalconStor, PlateSpin, Provision Networks, Quest Software, VMware and Vizioncore.
