Beyond replication

The new product range is intended to build on Double-Take Software’s leadership position in real-time, LAN/WAN, platform-independent replication solutions. “The idea is to take a more global approach to continuity, covering deployment, migration and failover” says Olivier Cohen, Director of Marketing EMEA. The acquisition of companies such as emBoot and TimeSpring has allowed Double-Take Software to extend the capabilities of certain solutions. Vizioncore and Platespin are among the competitors who will have to start looking more closely at how they position their offerings with respect to solutions from Double-Take Software.

Moving into the Enterprise sector

With its easy-to-use and competitively priced solutions, Double-Take Software, already well established in the SMB sector, is now seeking to develop its presence in large enterprises. For this it is counting on the Double-Take Availability offering (which incorporates the GeoCluster solution). “We're strong in the branch office” says Cohen. Many large enterprises prefer to avoid WAFS-based solutions for remote office data, application, and OS protection. Double-Take Software offers an effective alternative.

Of the four products comprising the Workload Optimization suite two – Double-Take Move and Double-Take Flex – are available now. Double-Take Availability and Double-Take Backup will complete the line up later this year.

Double-Take Move. Essentially a re-packaging of the highly successful Double-Take replication engine, Double-Take Move allows real-time P2P, P2V and V2V workload migration with minimal production impact. The Double-Take Move product was named as a winner in the Best of Tech•Ed 2009 awards at the Microsoft Tech•Ed conference in Los Angeles last month. Take a few minutes to watch the white board presentation of Double-Take Move in the “Virtualisation” section of this newsletter.

Double-Take Flex. Allows servers or PCs to boot directly from an iSCSI SAN, offering an alternative to deploying VDI. A solution for optimizing desktop PCs and blade servers.

Double Take Backup. Due in June, the Backup solution is based on a combination of the  Livewire, Cargo and TimeData products. Livewire provides cost-effective server replication and restoration for servers that don't need full high availability and failover support. TimeData file-based continuous data protection makes it easy to recover damaged or corrupted files without the need to restore from tape.
